Dialing Down the Noise
Recorded Workshop
Like hisses and pops on a vinyl record, noise in digital images is the bane of every deep-sky astrophotographer. It robs your images of fine detail, gives them a grainy appearance, and limits how large they can be displayed and still look good. What’s worse, noise prevents you from using other enhancement techniques like brightening and sharpening to their full potential, since you’ll be enhancing the noise along with the signal.

In this two-hour workshop, Ron and Warren will expand on the various settings available to optimize MultiscaleLinearTransform and NoiseXTerminator for noise reduction of linear images, and SCNR for color images. These tools were introduced in 'PixInsight for Newbies' and 'Next Steps for Newbies.' In addition, we'll cover the powerful TGVDenoise process to tame noise in non-linear images, using masking techniques also previously introduced. We also introduce the artificial intelligence-powered NoiseXTerminator process developed by Russell Croman.

Whether you use a One-Shot Color or Monochrome camera, incorporating effective noise reduction into your workflow is essential for getting the most from your data!

WHAT YOU’LL GET:
Attendees of this workshop will receive the following:

-
Image files that are used in the virtual workshop
-
Updated process icon sets to use on your own data – including TGVDenoise
